Axcia: Designing Spaces Where Trees Are Integral to Both Structure and Experience
Axcia: Designing Spaces Where Trees Are Integral to Both Structure and Experience

Discover
This project focuses on designing living spaces where trees are not merely decorative elements but are fully integrated into the structure of the building, bringing nature into the core of our living environment.
The work was made during my fifth semester under the Graphic Design in Space specialisation program at the university. The project explored the intersection of design in space and sustainability. I led it from concept to execution, researching spatial design trends, sketching early concepts, and shaping the final proposal and exhibition branding. I also collaborated with architect Nahom Tewodros, who contributed to the 3D renders, I integrated sustainable materials and energy-efficient systems to create a design that’s visually refined, environmentally conscious, and human above all.

Integrating Culture and Sustainability
Acxia reimagines work and recreational spaces as a living dialogue between people, culture, and environment. Inspired by Ethiopia’s Acacia tree, long a gathering place for community and reflection, the design centres human life around nature rather than above it. By combining traditions with biophilic design principles, the project creates spaces that are both culturally rooted and ecologically responsible. Passive systems such as solar panels, rainwater harvesting, and natural shading reduce environmental impact, while communal courtyards and open layouts foster social connection. The result is a model of sustainable living where tradition and modernity coexist in harmony.

To complement the spatial concept, the event and exhibition branding materials were developed to introduce Acxia through a cohesive and meaningful visual identity. The logo, inspired by the acacia tree’s organic structure and cultural symbolism, embodies the project’s essence, rootedness, resilience, and harmony with the environment. Every element, from posters and signage to digital interfaces, was designed to maintain visual consistency and narrative clarity. Together, these materials established a brand system that communicates the project’s vision with both emotional resonance and conceptual precision.
